MORNING CUP OF JOE (FEB. 7, 2012)

MORNING CUP OF JOE (FEB. 7, 2012)

By Joe Kilmas

February 13-19 is just around the corner.  The 25th ACE Group Classic on the PGA TOUR’S Champions Tour is set for The TwinEagles Club.  Be sure to visit  the ACE Group Classic web site for the latest spectacular discount, hospitality and golfing packages available. Don’t miss out.

Many professional golfers are also fishermen, especially Andy Bean, and the late George Archer from the Champions Tour.  Bean, at one time, moored his boat at the Windstar Marina in East Naples.  Both these gentlemen had some additional items in their bags during the two pro-ams.  Fully rigged fishing poles.  Whatever they landed, Bean continues their tradition of catch and release from the various ponds and lakes at  the site of the event.  During those two day of the pro-ams, their comments weren’t necessarily concerning their golf games, it was who hauled in the best catch.

As I mentioned, some of the finest volunteer Tee Announcers/Starters stood along  side me over those wonderful 24 years, and will continue  this year, my 25th anniversary.

Starting in year one at The Club at Pelican Bay:  Local TV sportscaster Chris Barnes, long time University of Wisconsin and Green Bay Packer play-play announcer Earl Gillespie, local attorneys Jerry Berry and John Cardillo, along with Ed Mummert, TV personalities Craig Wolf, Len Jennings, and Jay Severson, current General Manager of the Flamingo Flea Market, Gene Vaccaro, as well as David Reynolds and my current protégé Brendan Cunnigham.  I must apologize for those I have failed to mention, but I have always enjoyed the good times.

I’m realing looking forward to this, the milestone 25th anniversary.   Hope to see you in just a few more days. Take another sip of Joe for me.
