“We couldn’t be happier about the tremendous field that we have competing on TPC Treviso Bay,” said Tournament Director Jason Camp. “We have some of the most accomplished men in the sport and some great competitors. I hope that the community takes note and comes out to see these guys on our new course.”
The field is highlighted by all ten of the top-10 from the 2008 Official Money List and 11 of its past champions. In addition, ten of the golfers coming to Naples are World Golf Hall of Famers. They include Ben Crenshaw, Hubert Green, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Larry Nelson, Gary Player, Nick Price, Curtis Strange and Lee Trevino.
An exciting group of first-timers will make their Naples debut. Langer, the 2008 Champions Tour Player of the Year, leads the cast. Fred Funk, who has split time on the Champions Tour and PGA TOUR, will make his 2009 debut at TPC Treviso Bay. In addition, former major winners Sandy Lyle, Larry Mize and Hal Sutton will play for the first time.
Amateurs will compete on Monday for an opportunity to play with Gary Player in the Thursday pro-am. Also on Monday, The Plantation will host The ACE Group Classic Qualifier where the final four spots in the tournament will be earned. Practice rounds will take place Monday and Tuesday. The Official Pro-Am is held Wednesday and Thursday, while the 54-hole championship begins Friday and will conclude on Sunday.
